Where nature rules

Costa Rica is a small country that hides two oceans, twelve life zones and half the planet’s biosphere in the mist. Here the days begin with a Caribbean sunrise and end with a Pacific sunset.

We design private routes that alternate primary rainforest, rest by the sea and encounters with guides who have spent their whole lives watching the forest. More than 25% of the country is protected: we work with family-run lodges, community guides and responsible operators, so that the places we visit are left better than we found them.

Rafting, canopy tours among the clouds, hot springs at the foot of Arenal or hours of waiting in a hide: you set the pace. We make sure every transfer makes sense.

05 · The people on the route

Meet our hosts.

In Costa Rica we work with guides who do not just show you the way: they share their land.

Luis Acuña
Nature guide and photographer

Luis · the eye of the forest

He has spent years waiting for the right light in wetlands and tropical forests. His way of guiding is silence, patience and absolute respect for wildlife.

Alexis Mora
Conservationist and guide

Alexis · the carer

He runs a sloth sanctuary where he rehabilitates them and returns them to the forest. With him you learn by watching: what a call means, why a branch moves.

UKIYO tips.

Preparation

Essential packing

  • Light, quick-drying clothes and a waterproof layer. It rains without warning.
  • Closed shoes with a good sole: hiking boots already broken in, not brand new.
  • Biodegradable sunscreen and good insect repellent.
  • A dry bag for your camera and phone.
  • Light binoculars: the difference between seeing “a dot” and seeing the quetzal.
Worth knowing

Important notes

  • Moderate fitness level: wet trails, roots and real heat.
  • Absolute respect for wildlife: do not feed, touch or chase.
  • Groups are always small (max. 8).
  • Travel insurance recommended with full medical coverage.
  • No vaccinations are compulsory. You do need serious mosquito repellent and care with the sun.
