UKIYO’s Java → Bali → Lombok → Komodo route brings together four very different sides of Indonesia. The Essences of Indonesia trip is presented as 18 days: 17 in the country and arrival back in Madrid on day 18 after an overnight flight. Here we explain why those stages belong together and what needs checking before the route becomes a proposal for your dates.
The order of places is outlined, but the final nights by stage, accommodation and Komodo stay are still being reviewed. This article describes the route in preparation; visits, transport and included services are confirmed in a trip proposal.
01 · The routeFour stages with different roles
Java: culture, waterfalls and volcanoes first
The first part links Yogyakarta with East Java. The current outline lists Surabaya as a transit point, Tumpak Sewu and Kapas Biru waterfalls, Bromo and Ijen. These changes of base and early starts need careful timing; not every stop means a full day available for sightseeing.
Ijen is in East Java, before the crossing to Bali. Seeing the natural “blue fire” depends on access, conditions and timing, so it cannot be guaranteed. The same applies to any climb or visit affected by volcanic activity or weather.
Bali: Ubud and Amed at different speeds
After Java, the route moves to Ubud and Amed. Ubud offers a base for Bali’s interior; Amed changes the setting and pace towards the eastern coast. Choosing what to do from each base makes more sense than crossing the island repeatedly. The specific accommodation in Amed still needs correction and validation before it can be presented as confirmed.
Lombok: time around Kuta
The next stage is based around Kuta in southern Lombok. UKIYO also has first-hand context for this island: on our stay in Lombok we visited places such as Mawun and Tetebatu and noticed a different pace from Bali. That experience informs the choice of stage; it does not mean every place from that stay is included in this trip.
Komodo: the sea changes the logistics
The final part passes through Labuan Bajo and Komodo National Park. Choosing islands on a map is only the beginning: the boat, sailing duration, accommodation, permits and alternatives in changing sea conditions all matter. The choice between nights on a boat and in a hotel remains open in this proposal. Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed.

02 · ConnectionsWhere the pace of the trip is decided
- Java → Bali: count the end of Java and the crossing to Bali as travel time, not as full sightseeing days on both islands.
- Bali → Lombok: confirm the right transport for your dates and departure base; the map only shows the order of stages.
- Lombok → Labuan Bajo: check the connection, baggage and margin before fixing the Komodo sailing plan.
- Return: day 18 is the arrival in Madrid; the overnight flight and final transfer in Indonesia need to be counted separately.
This combination suits travellers who want contrast between places and are comfortable with several transfers. If you prefer longer stays on each island, we can discuss which stage to remove or change before preparing a proposal; shortening the calendar also means redesigning the logistics.
03 · Before enquiringWhat is outlined and what is confirmed with you
The sequence of four areas and the stated duration are public. Nights by stage, final accommodation, the Komodo format, transport and included activities must still be validated for your dates. Standard, Superior and Premium accommodation levels are also prepared across the whole journey; a label alone does not identify a particular hotel.
If this route is close to what you want, read the trip page and tell us when you would travel, how many people are going and which parts matter most. We can then check services and prepare a clear proposal. A journey with different destinations or suppliers would be a new Design UKIYO project.
04 · QuestionsWhat to know before deciding
Is it 17 or 18 days?
The route states 17 days in Indonesia. Day 18 is the arrival in Madrid after an overnight flight. Exact calendar dates depend on the flights proposed.
Are the nights and Komodo sailing confirmed?
Not yet. Nights by stage and the Komodo accommodation format will be set when the itinerary and services are validated for your dates.
Can the route be adapted?
Yes, within the limits of the available connections and services. Changes in pace or accommodation level can be assessed on this route; different destinations or suppliers call for a new design from scratch.
