If your Colombia trip includes Nuquí, the Coffee Region and the Caribbean, no single month is ideal for every stop. December to March generally brings less rain to much of the route, particularly the Caribbean. If you hope to see whales near Nuquí, the July to October season changes the choice, even though the Pacific coast remains wet. Start with the experience that matters most to you.

This guide follows our prepared 14-day, 13-night Colombia route: Medellin, Nuquí, Filandia, Salento, Providencia, the Tayrona area and Cartagena. The sequence of nights is set; flights, accommodation and services for particular dates still need confirmation.

When to travel, depending on your priority

  • Providencia and Cartagena: look first at December to March. Holiday demand rises; neither sunshine nor calm seas are guaranteed.
  • Whales near Nuquí: look at July to October. This is a whale season, not a sighting guarantee, and the Pacific remains wet.
  • Coffee towns and walking: look at December to March or July and August. Rain is possible in the Coffee Region in any month.
  • The full route: start with your main priority, then check flight connections and park access.

The official Colombia tourism climate guide describes broad wetter and drier periods, while warning that they differ by region. A single nationwide calendar cannot settle the choice for this route.

Nuquí: a reason to travel in a wetter season

The Pacific coast is wet throughout the year. Colombia’s National Parks identified July to October as the 2026 whale season and included Utría, between Nuquí and Bahía Solano, among the viewing areas. If this is your priority, start with those dates and leave room for rain, sea conditions and possible schedule changes. A whale-watching trip is only included if it appears in your individual proposal.

Providencia, Cartagena and the Tayrona area

The Caribbean generally has a sunnier period from December to April. That can suit a beach stay, but it does not guarantee calm seas, punctual flights or accommodation in Providencia. Christmas, January and Easter call for earlier checks of rooms and connections. Prioritising the Caribbean may point you to different dates from a whale-focused visit to Nuquí.

Our trip stays in the Tayrona area; staying nearby does not mean park entry is included. Access and temporary closures can change. Before booking we check National Parks’ current information and the services in your proposal.

The Coffee Region and Medellin

Filandia and Salento are two bases on this trip, with three nights between them. Rain is possible even in relatively drier months, so allow a little flexibility for walks and outdoor visits. Medellin also connects the route to Nuquí; average city weather alone is no reason to book tight domestic flight connections.

How to choose dates for this route

  • Caribbean first: look at December to March, then check rooms, flights and local conditions for your dates.
  • Whales first: look at July to October, allowing for rain and changes around Nuquí.
  • Fixed dates: we will check the connections and decide which stage needs adjusting; changing regions or nights means designing another version.

The route has eight stays in 13 nights. A favourable season cannot fix an impractical connection or turn an optional activity into an inclusion. Tell us your dates and whether the Caribbean, coffee country or Pacific coast matters most; we will review the 14-day trip with you before preparing a proposal.
